Barry J. Waldman Named Vice Chair of the Virginia State Bar Family Law Section
Waldman & Associates, PLLC is proud to announce that founding attorney Barry J. Waldman has been named Vice Chair of the Virginia State Bar Family Law Section’s Board of Governors for the 2026–2027 term. He serves alongside Chair Kristen L. Kugel of Fairfax and a board of family law attorneys and judges from across the Commonwealth.
The appointment builds on Barry’s years of service to the Section. He previously served as a member of the Board of Governors, and he currently sits on the subcommittee that summarizes new Court of Appeals of Virginia opinions for the Virginia Family Law Quarterly, the Section’s publication for family law practitioners statewide.
What the Family Law Section Does
The Family Law Section of the Virginia State Bar brings together attorneys who handle divorce, custody, support, and related matters throughout Virginia. Its Board of Governors leads the Section’s work, which includes:
- Organizing continuing legal education (CLE) programs that keep family law attorneys current on changes in the law, including the Section’s annual October CLE program
- Publishing the Virginia Family Law Quarterly, which features practice articles and summaries of recent appellate decisions
- Developing public resources for families, such as Spare the Child, which helps parents protect their children during separation and divorce
As Vice Chair, Barry will help guide these efforts and support the Section’s mission of strengthening family law practice across the state.
Why This Matters for Our Clients
Family law in Virginia changes often. New appellate decisions shape how courts handle custody, spousal support, property division, and the enforcement of agreements. Barry’s work summarizing those decisions for the Quarterly means he reads them as they come out and understands how they may affect the families we represent.
His leadership role also keeps him connected with family law attorneys and judges throughout Virginia. That perspective helps us anticipate how issues may be argued and decided, whether a case is heading to trial or being resolved through negotiation.
Barry has been licensed to practice in Virginia since 1999 and founded Waldman & Associates in 2005. Our firm focuses exclusively on family law, serving clients in Fredericksburg, Stafford County, Spotsylvania County, and the surrounding region. Barry has represented thousands of clients in matters ranging from simple divorces to multi-million-dollar asset cases and complex, multi-state custody disputes.
